The Death Penalty is Too Harsh Many people may be aware there is a punishment for convicts known as the death penalty, also known as capital punishment. This penalty allows the state to put a convicted man or woman to death by: lethal injection, lethal gas, electrocution, or a firing squad. For many years protestors have been pushing for states to abolish the ability of sentencing someone to death for committing a crime. The death penalty has always been one of the most debated issues in the United States. As our country grows older and wiser, evidence clearly points to the fact that the death penalty is not a good solution. The death penalty is too harsh and should be abolished. There is no question that killing another person is†¦show more content†¦This is mainly caused from the legal costs of the process, which is supposed to prevent executions of innocent people, but can sometimes fail. The death penalty is a waste of taxpayer money and strains an already overburdened court system. Texas, with over three hundred inmates on death row, is spending an estimated 2.3 million dollars per case! With this fact it is amazing that Texas’ murder rate remains one of the highest in the country. Around eight hundred thousand dollars is spent on cases not involving the death penalty. The judicial system should stop capital punishment, and with the money that use to be used for the cases could go towards the betterment of the state. Rise in opposition to the government to abolish this dreadful experience that has been lurking in the history of this nation. From the very beginning this country has put people to death for crimes. There are records of people hung for committing adultery, which is now not seen as such a bad thing in society. Not all that commit crimes are punished with death. Death, or murder, is never the right answer. Mahatma Ghandi had the right idea when he was quoted saying, â€Å"An eye for an eye makes the whole world go blind.† He knew what he was talking about, he knew of all the bad things the society thought was right and knew he needed to put society in check.
